Number of reported bike/car accidents in

Every year in Canada, thousands of cyclists and drivers collide. We've crammed every accident report we could find into this map. Pick a path and we'll show you every accident we know along it--within the years you specify.

This map only shows the accidents which have been reported to police (or, in Halifax's case, to the provincial insurance provider). That means it doesn't count the delirium of dings in everyday rush hour. Also, most of our data comes in the form of intersections, not exact locations.

Play around, and you might notice that lots of accidents occur along designated bike routes. That's normal: there are many more cyclists along bike routes, so there are more accidents. A route with more accidents isn't necessarily more dangerous for each individual on it.

It's a dangerous road for cyclists, and a risky one for drivers. Be careful.
